Investors sought for mega leisure attractions in Trinidad
Here's phase one of the Chaguaramas boardwalk at sundown.
The Chaguaramas Development Authority has picked up the pace on ambitious plans to turn more than 14,000 acres on Trinidad’s northwest coast into one of the most inviting tourist destinations in the region.
The CDA is looking to connect with the leading firms in tourism and recreational projects and has invited expressions of interest.
The latest call invites potential investors to mull over projects which include a mini golf course, a transportation hub, a themed water park and kids’ play area, restaurants and family entertainment centre and 40,000 square feet of leasable space with an observation tower overlooking the entire peninsula.
Two months ago, a round of official requests for proposals welcomed bids for the design of a hotel and marina and an 18-hole golf course.
The “Boardwalk Family of Projects” as they’re being called will enliven Chaguaramas. Visitors will have their pick of waterfront amenities and will enjoy the easygoing vibe typical of seaside communities. The perfect getaway for locals or Caribbean neighbours who don’t want to get too far away.
Chaguaramas is also already home to yachting enthusiasts who take advantage of the island’s strategic location below the hurricane belt.
The development of this site is part of a plan to bolster the economy through non-energy investments. Trinidad offers excellent investment opportunities in tourism precisely because the sector’s potential has not been tapped. The tourism focus up to now has been on the sister isle Tobago, a favourite hangout for British and European travelers.
The CDA is inviting investors to design, build, finance and operate these recreational facilities.
“We want the best firms to come forward,” says Michael Anatol, CDA’s divisional manager of commercial planning and business development, “that’s how we will ensure we realise this dream of expanding Chaguaramas’ appeal as the ideal leisure site.”
