Trinidad and Tobago opens new embassy in Beijing
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday opened a Trinidad and Tobago embassy in the Sino-metropolis of Beijing ushering a new era in bilateral relations with China.
Persad-Bissessar led a business delegation on a five-day state visit to China from Feb. 24 seeking commitments from investors for projects ranging from drydocking and transshipment to clean technology. Government has taken a lead role in pushing for investment in non- oil and gas sectors in an attempt to diversify the economy.
Sectors where the country is particularly competitive include agribusiness, creative industries, maritime, financial services, ICT, tourism and clean tech.
In China, formal agreements worth US$750 million have also been signed for construction of a new port and seven new industrial parks in Trinidad and Tobago.
