InvesTT attends World Forum for FDI 2014

PORT-OF-SPAIN, June 16, 2014: Continuing its push to promote Trinidad and Tobago as an attractive business location, national investment promotion agency InvesTT, led by President Racquel Moses, will take part in the 2014 edition of the prestigious World Forum for Foreign Direct Investment which starts today in Philadelphia, USA.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to make connections with investors who are looking toward Latin America and the Caribbean, said Moses, “and promote Trinidad and Tobago’s suitability as a low-cost, business-friendly destination.”

InvesTT has been actively courting investments in non-energy sectors like financial services and business process outsourcing, maritime industries, agribusiness, tourism, and, recently, for a solar panel manufacturing cluster destined for Pt. Lisas.

Backed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Communications, InvesTT’s end-game is job creation and a diversified economy.

Last year, fDi Magazine, an affiliate of the Financial Times, ranked Trinidad and Tobago number one in Central America and the Caribbean for cost-effectiveness, based in part on a little-known fact: the country has one of the lowest energy costs in the world at just US$0.03 per kWh. InvesTT wants to get the word out at the Forum.

“The solar PV investment opportunity and Trinidad’s value proposition for BPO and shared services are just two of the objectives we have for this event. We’ve found that outside of the energy sector Trinidad and Tobago is still not widely known. These conferences allow us to show up in the same room with corporate site selectors and have something to offer them,” Moses said.

Hosted by Red Hot Locations based in the UK, the World Forum for FDI brings together government decision makers, corporate executives and trade and economic development professionals from around the world for discussions ranging from investment opportunities to industry incentives and emerging trends.

The Pennsylvania forum runs from June 16-18 and marks the first time in 11 years that the event is being held in North America.

Executive Director of Tata Sons Limited Ramabadran Gopalakrishnan will deliver the keynote to more than 300 delegates.
