Trinidad and Tobago has been selected by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to host a press conference to launch the results of The World Investment Report 2012 (WIR12) on their behalf for the Caribbean region. WIR12 presents the latest data on foreign direct investment (FDI) and traces global trends in FDI and in international production by transnational corporations (TNCs).
The WIR12 is the 22nd in a series to be released by UNCTAD. The title of this year’s report is "Towards a New Generation of Investment Policies". The launch is timed to be synchronized with similar launches in other parts of the world.
WIR12 examines patterns of FDI in light of the significant efforts taking place in many regions towards regional economic integration. At a time of persistent crises and pressing social and environmental challenges, harnessing economic growth for sustainable and inclusive development is more important than ever. Investment is a primary driver of such growth. Mobilizing investment and ensuring that it contributes to sustainable development objectives is therefore a priority for all countries and for developing countries in particular.
Trinidad and Tobago is set and ready for engagement with new international players and provides a wealth of competitive advantages. These include a stable economic and political environment, strong financial and banking centre, lowest energy costs in the region, strategic location and industry specific investment incentives.
